Abstract Expresionist/Jackson Pollock, Action Painting

Artist of the Month: Jackson Pollock

January 28, 1912 -August 11, 1956.
Jackson Pollock [Pol-uhk] grew up in the western states of Wyoming, Arizona, and California. As a young student, Pollock moved to New York to make his way in the art world.  Pollock began to work in larger and larger formats and invented a style of abstract painting using a very liquid, runny paint to cover large canvas panels spread on the floor.  He used brushes, sticks and even kitchen basters to drip and pour paint into creative patterns. His technique was called Action Painting, as he moved with his whole body as he painted, sometimes carefully dripping paint, sometimes swirling and flinging paint in swirls and webs of colors.
